PostHeaderIcon Tables, bench, and paneling made from urban bur oak

The lumber for these four projects was sawed from a bur oak well over a century old that grew on private property in Cincinnati, OH. The log from the tree was so large that it had to be blasted apart with black powder (see the video on this website of the blasts). The log yielded over a thousand board feet of lumber, all quarter sawn and 5/4 thick. Pairs of boards used for the two table tops were about 20″ wide each. There was enough oak to also turn two-dozen pens and make several cutting boards.
