Recently a high wind blew most of the top out of a tall oak tree in the back yard of a property in Wyoming, OH. The damage was fatal and the fallen branches and remaining trunk were a hazard so the tree was removed.

The owner, who works on environmental issues as a consultant, had read the newspaper article about the tables, bench, and paneling made from the oak on property only several blocks away (“Tables, Bench, and Paneling Made from Urban Bur Oak“). She decided that she wanted something similar for herself. Sam arranged for the standing trunk to be felled, quarter-sawed into lumber, and kiln dried. This Stickley-style sofa table is the first of several pieces planned for the wood.
